Digitisation of Information Resources and Changes in the Worlds of Librarians, Archivists and Museum Professionals

Isto Huvila

Abstract

Archives, libraries and museums (ALM) are facing similar challenges in preserving cultural heritage assets and serving the present and future society. The aim of the present study is to map changes that pertain to the work of cultural heritage professionals and relate to the digitalisation of information in the context of their work beyond the principal focus of the earlier literature on the activities that relate directly to the digitalisation, digital preservation or digital management of cultural heritage assets. The work is based on a qualitative analysis of 21 interviews with Nordic archivists, librarians and museum professionals working in public archives, public libraries and cultural and/or historical museums.
